BLDC Motors for Medical Technology
Brushless DC motors engineered for medical equipment — ventilation, infusion, diagnostics and therapy. Noise, cleanliness and reliability decide these designs, and that is exactly where the drive is specified.
What Makes a Medical Motor Different
The same frame that drives a pump in a machine tool is not automatically fit for a hospital. In a medical device the motor sits next to the patient, so the priorities are cleanliness, noise, and a documented, repeatable build.
That shows up in concrete choices: brushless commutation so there is no carbon dust, sealed bearings and clean housing surfaces, a low-vibration rotor, and a drive laid out so its emissions do not disturb the equipment beside it.
- No brush dust — the air path stays clean
- Low noise — measured in dB(A), not assumed
- Sealed and cleanable surfaces — materials matched to your protocol
- Documented life — quoted against your duty cycle

Custom BLDC motor →Selecting a Medical Motor
Six requirements drive the choice, and each maps to a specific part of the motor rather than a single part number.
| Requirement | Why it matters in a medical device | How we address it |
|---|---|---|
| Airborne contamination | Brush dust cannot enter a patient airway or a cleanroom | Brushless commutation, sealed bearings, clean surfaces |
| Acoustic noise | Home CPAP and bedside equipment run while the patient sleeps | Slotless or low-vibration rotors, noise quoted in dB(A) at test distance |
| Cleanability & sterilization | Wipe-down, and in some cases autoclave, decide the housing and materials | Housing and bearing choice matched to your decontamination protocol |
| Electromagnetic emissions | Drives sit beside ECG, imaging and monitoring electronics | Twisted-pair wiring, grounding and filtering laid out to your EMC limits |
| Life & reliability | A therapy device cannot fail mid-treatment | Bearing and insulation selection, life quoted against your duty cycle |
| Precision & response | Flow and positioning loops need a fast, repeatable drive | FOC control with tachometer or encoder feedback |
Safety and essential performance of the finished device are assessed on the whole equipment — see IEC 60601-1. A quality system for medical device manufacture follows ISO 13485. We supply the motor and its test data to support your technical file; we do not certify the device.

FAQ – BLDC Motors for Medical Technology
Are your motors certified for medical devices?
The motor as a standalone component is not certified to IEC 60601-1; safety and essential performance are assessed on the finished device. What we supply is the data your technical file needs — test results, materials, insulation and a documented build — plus an ISO 9001 factory behind it.
What voltages and speeds do you cover?
12 V to 48 V for most medical builds, with high-speed blower drives up to 60,000 rpm for ventilation and geared builds down to 10 rpm and 10 N·m for therapy beds and positioning.
Can you provide EMC test data?
Yes. We lay the drive out for low emissions (twisted-pair wiring, grounding, filtering) and can supply test data against your target limits — tell us the standard and the class your device must meet.
Can the motor survive cleaning or autoclave?
Wipe-down is standard; we select sealed bearings and clean housing surfaces for that. If the device is autoclaved or exposed to chemicals, tell us the protocol and we choose the materials accordingly.
Do you support small runs and prototypes?
Yes — from single prototypes through small batch to volume OEM production, with drawing review within 24 hours and a sample before tooling.
What do you need to quote a medical motor?
Voltage, speed or torque target, the noise limit, cleanability, and any EMC or standard requirements. From those we return a matched drawing set and a proposal, usually within 24 hours.
